What will it feel like?
Cranio-Sacral therapy is very gentle and shouldn't be uncomfortable, positions can be adapted to suit you if you are not comfortable lying down and the hands have a 'feather light' touch. Some people who are very body conscious may become aware of the subtle wave-like motion of the cranio-sacral system in their own bodies or changes in their bodies as they let go and relax. As the body releases you may also feel an emotional release, this is normal and very healthy! The sensations and emotions experienced vary greatly from one person to the next but in general a sense of well-being and contentement is the main sensation from cranio sacral.
What should I wear to a session?
Cranio-Sacral therapy is generally done fully clothed and there are no special requirements in terms of clothing. That said I tend to reccomend loose fitting clothes for the wearers comfort and I suggest the removal of belts. As the session is done lying down I also reccomend a hairstyle that allows for this and I may ask you to let down your hair for easier access to the head and cranium.
How many sessions do I need?
The number of sessions will be different from person to person and depend on whether the issue they want addressing is chronic (of long duration - for example a long standing injury or syndrome) or acute (of short duration - for example a sprain). Generally speaking a series of three to six sessions is recommended for chronic issues and perhaps only one or two sessions for something acute in nature. Most people notice improvements from the first session and may only need a few sessions to experience a change in their symptoms and state. They may continue to come for sessions from time to time for general wellbeing, or when they have had an injury or need physical or emotional support.
However this can vary greatly, about as greatly as we do vary ourselves. Each person is an individual outside of their symptoms and has a unique history and story. As the duration of treatment varies greatly and what the patient wants from sessions varies also I like to check in every session or every few sessions to see if you are happy with how things are going.

Is it done only on the head?
The answer to this often asked question is no! cranio-sacral therapy is not only for the cranium, though that is an important part of most treatments. In cranio-sacral therapy any part of the persons body may be held as is needed including the sacrum and sites of important junctions in the body such as the diaphragm or solar plexus, any organs can be treated as well and from one position the practitioner can seek to engage the whole body to guide it into a state of ease and harmony.
